Thanksgiving Break November 25-29 〰️
Pie Sale Orders are Due Tomorrow!
Almost 60 students in grades 3-11 participate in the TVA Bells program. We are raising funds to repair and replace equipment, to buy more bells so more kids can play in each choir, and to offset the cost of this spring’s music tour. Please consider purchasing pies to support the bell choir!
Important to know:
Pies come frozen, so you can use them for any occasion
Pick up pies Friday, December 13
Order packets were sent home with students on Monday. You can order on the paper order form or online, and can pay by cash, check, or credit card (online only).
Thank you for supporting TVA Bells!
We are excited to announce that Spirit Week is just around the corner, happening December 2-6! Each day, students will have the opportunity to dress up and participate in fun activities to help spread Christmas cheer. Please see the attached flyer for details about the dress-up themes:
Monday: Ugly Sweater Day
Tuesday: Gingerbread Day
Wednesday: Christmas Character Day
Thursday: Pajama Day
Friday: Theme Day by Class or Class Color
In addition to the fun dress-up themes, we’ll also be hosting Christmas activities every day! On Gingerbread Day (Tuesday, December 3), the entire school will gather in the gym to build gingerbread houses together.
How You Can Help
To make this week a success, we need your help with the following:
Volunteers for Gingerbread Day (Tuesday, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM)
We’re looking for helpers to assist in set up and take down. If you’re available, please email Mrs. Irvine at Sarah.Irvine@tualatinvalleyacademy.org.
Volunteers for Pajama Day (Thursday, 1:00 PM–3:00 PM)
We need volunteers to help make popcorn and hot chocolate for our movie in the gym, as well as assist with cleanup after the event.
Donations for Gingerbread Houses
We need candy, frosting, and graham crackers to create the gingerbread houses. Donations will be divided by grade level, so please drop them off in the office by Monday, December 2.
Thank You!
Thank you in advance for your support in making Spirit Week a special time for our students. We look forward to celebrating the season together!
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, feel free to reach out.

Welcome our new music teacher Mr. Calvin
Mr. Calvin will be working with our Preschool - 4th grade classes to get ready for the upcoming Christmas concert!
Mr. Calvin has 14 years of experience teaching private music lessons and holds a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, where he graduated magna cum laude and made the Dean's List. With a passion for inspiring young musicians, he loves sharing the magic of music and helping students connect with it on a deeper level.
Before joining TVA, Mr. Calvin taught at various music schools in Portland and later opened his own studio. He’s excited to bring an early music program to life at TVA and support advanced musical learning. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar, camping, and traveling. A proud dad of two boys, Mr. Calvin also dreams of releasing a country album someday. His favorite part of teaching? Seeing kids light up with excitement about music!
Fun fact: His favorite color is "surf green," inspired by his first refinished guitar.
Inclement Weather
Procedures for Inclement Weather
We attempt to make the best decision possible during inclement weather. We primarily follow the Hillsboro School District for most late starts and school closures, but we also take into account that we have families and staff that live in various parts of the west Portland metro area (Hillsboro, Beaverton, Portland, Cornelius, Forest Grove).
There will be times when there is not a late start or a school closure. We trust that you will make the best judgment for you and your family's safety based on the conditions of the roads around you.
We will notify you about late starts or school closures by:
1. Sending a notification/email through the Enhanced Parent Communication through Teacher Ease. You will receive a text message if you have set this up on your Teacher Ease account. If you have not yet done this, please follow the instructions on this video. This will be the quickest way to receive messages since we are no longer subscribing to Flash Alert. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6HS2uGIhbU
3. Posting on our school website.
4. Posting a message on our school's social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
5. Teachers will send you message on Remind. Please make sure you have subscribed to their group.
Late Starts
In case of a late start, school will start at 10:15 AM. Doors will open at 10:00AM. BASE will open at 8:00AM. Hot lunch will be available. We will send a notification between 5:30AM and 6:00AM. If we are looking at a late start on a Friday, we will have a closure instead since we have an early release/dismissal on Fridays.
Always feel free to make the best call for you and your family. There is no need to rush to get to school. Driving slowly and safely takes precedence.
School Closures
We do not always know the night before if there will be a school closure the next day. When we can, we will strive to make the decisions the night before, however, this is not always possible.
