About us

Tualatin Valley Academy is a PreK-12th grade Seventh-day Adventist school located in Hillsboro, OR. We are committed to providing affordable, high quality education in a Christ-filled environment.

In 2023 we received accreditation for 11th and 12th grade, and we are offering 11th grade beginning Fall 2024 and 12th grade beginning Fall 2025.

Our school is part of the world-wide Seventh-day Adventist school network.  The Seventh-day Adventist educational system includes elementary and high schools, colleges and universities in countries around the globe.

Tualatin Valley Academy was established to provide an excellent educational experience for students within a distinctively Christian environment. As part of the largest Protestant educational system in the world, our faculty and staff continue the system wide educational tradition of encouraging and nurturing children to develop and perform at their highest potential spiritually, academically, emotionally, physically, and socially.

We offer an affordable, family-oriented, Christian environment for children in pre-school through 12th grade. Our beautiful campus is home to approximately 200 students and provides an ideal learning environment for children from all walks of life.

The campus includes a playground that is surrounded by a track and enclosed by trees. A large gymnasium and covered outdoor area provides physical education and play space during all types of weather. The Academy also has a spacious cafeteria, an inviting library, both elementary and upper grade computer labs, an upper grade student lounge, and well-equipped classrooms that have an abundance of natural light. In addition, our program called BASE, Before and After School Experience, provides child care as a service to our working parents. The program is available for students in grades PreK-12th grade whose parent’s work schedules do not make it possible for them to bring or pick up their children at regular school time, or in emergency situations.

EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY

At Tualatin Valley Academy, we place great value on providing high quality education. To provide this kind of high-caliber teaching, we use several different techniques.

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING

Project-based learning, or PBL, is a teaching method that encourages students to solve real-life problems in a project format using a variety of teaching tools. Students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills from a young age.

EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION

Our small class size allows us to take our students out into the community often to continue their education outside of the classroom. From exploring a farm firsthand to searching out the perfect site to shoot a video for their technology class to the high school marine biology trip, students taking these carefully planned trips enhance their education in ways that would not be possible inside the classroom.

STEAM

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Tualatin Valley Academy incorporates STEAM into as many aspects of your child’s education as possible. Beginning in Preschool, students have use of our computer lab. First and second graders have a special Wacky Science class that they participate in weekly. Art Smart teaches students about forms of art from around the world. Middle School and High School students take specialized STEAM classes that allow them to explore the world through technology, focusing on the student’s area(s) of interest. A fully equipped science lab is available to all Middle School and High School students.

MENTORSHIP

We believe in teaching students to mentor others as much as they themselves are mentored by our staff. Several classrooms have buddies in another classroom that they read with or do projects with. High school students help coach and mentor younger students in sports programs. Additionally, every student is part of a family group. Family groups include students from a variety of grades that do special projects and events like our Agape Feast or Christmas Decoration Day together throughout the year. By teaching our older students to mentor our younger students, we are teaching them to build leadership skills that will last them a lifetime.
